Making a Home Page Automatically

Generally, each Web site has a home page that is used to provide visitors with information about the site and navigation, or links, to other documents or Web sites. This page is created by using HTML. You don’t have to know how to code in HTML to produce your own home page. You can use the PWS home page wizard. You can launch the wizard at any time to make a custom home page.

  1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, then Microsoft Personal Web Server, and click Personal Web Manager.
  2. In Personal Web Manager, click the Web Site icon on the sidebar.
  3. Follow the directions on screen to automatically create a home page. You can get additional help on items by clicking the links above each field.

Note   If you have a default.htm page already in the Inetpub\Wwwroot directory when you install PWS, setup does not overwrite this page. To see the page you create with the home page wizard, click the Advanced icon in Personal Web Manager and change the order of the documents in the Enable default document box to default.asp, default.htm. If you have a default.asp page already in the Inetpub\Wwwroot directory when you install PWS, move, delete, or rename the file, and then copy Inetpub\Wwwroot\Iissamples\Homepage\default.asp to Inetpub\Wwwroot. After copying the file, go to Personal Web Manager and click the Web Site icon to create your home page.
